With Merlin-and the magic he wields-back at his side, King Arthur is stronger than ever. Brigette and Duncan continue to fight against Camelot's dark forces, but when Merlin calls to life another story entirely, will the two heroes save the day? Or will they find themselves becoming the villains they're sworn to defeat.

Expect the unexpected with this book. That is what I have come to accept by the conclusion of Once & Future #9. This is a book which thrives on the idea that the only way to keep your head is to know the story, because Duncan and Brigette are in for a rude awakening if they don't pick up on that soon. While Zombie Arthur seems a bit off his rocker, Merlin seems relatively sane in comparison, working on the long game to see the return of his king (despite what shape Arthur may be in physically or mentally). Releasing figures like Beowulf and Grendel into the world should keep Duncan occupied, but will it buy enough time to put Arthur back on the throne? Read Full Review

Once & Future started as an interesting and frightening take on the legend of King Arthur. It has since grown to be so much more, with seemingly all of the western myths at its disposal, albeit with a horror bend. It's like Once Upon a Time meets Supernatural with a bunch more monsters. Would trying to expand this story work? Would it dilute the awesomeness? Cheapen the narrative? Oh, me of little faith. This second arc has only added to the fantastic premise, throwing exciting new wrinkles into the story of the reluctant monster hunter and his bad-ass gran. Blending humour, action and high-stakes fantasy into a thoroughly enjoyable read, this is a series that comes highly recommended. Read Full Review
