While S.I. #8 mostly fails as the conclusion to a big, bloated, far too lengthy event, I believe it really succeeds as a mechanism for riling up the masses for the new status quo of the Marvel Universe. Truth be told, outside of a few new books set to launch (especially the Jonathan Hickman/Stefano Caselli Secret Warriors title), I really didn't have a whole lot of interest in Dark Reign prior to today. Now, I simply can't wait to see what happens next. That is why I absolutely must give credit where it is most definitely due. It is far from perfect, but it also does what was needed extremely well. In the end, Secret Invasion was exactly what I though it was. It was an unoriginal, predictable and mindless fight-fest. Secret Invasion can truly be summed up by a line from Shakespeare's Macbeth "it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." The Secret Invasion event was shallow, poorly paced, sloppily plotted, often lacked internal logic and at points suffered from poor research. I am sure that Secret Invasion will be quickly forgotten. This issue has been solicited as the end of Secret Invasion. It is not. It is actually the beginning of Dark Reign. The end of the battle is wrapped up in a perfunctory fashion, and the death of the Wasp is treated almost cavalierly. The reveal and return of the lost heroes had a little punch, and thought the issue contained some interesting moments, the combination of Leinil Yu's unclear storytelling and Brian Bendis' tendency to gloss over plotholes with reams of dialogue make the limitations of the story really obvious. With a story like this, we know the aliens aren't going to win, so the fun comes in the journey. This issue, more than any other, fails in that, tripping all over itself to set up the new Marvel Universe and failing to satisfactorily close up the old Marvel Universe, which itself was only set up a summer or two ago in the wake of Civil War. Of course, I cant give this comic book a decent grade. But, I must ask all comic book readers hooked on Marvel Comics, to use the little disposable money they have left to spend it on comic books that do not degrade their intelligence like Secret Invasion and to encourage promising creators that have something to challenge them and for whom creating comic books is not about keeping the brand alive long enough so they can sign a movie deal. here were just too many things that made no sense and were never explained. Please Marvel, PLEASE don't have another crossover again next year. If you've been online, you've seen the final page of this issue. That's all you need to know. Having the conclusion to your summer blockbuster told completely in flashback is the stupidest thing I've ever seen and robbed the story of any impact it could have had and flies completely in the face of the style and tone the rest of the series had. It's like they didn't even care anymore and wanted to end it and move on to Dark Reign instead of going through the paces of, you know, telling the story. Lol the only casualty is Wasp. Who doesn't even dead anymore... Nice! So, as we can see, this big and long secret invasion ended up being just nothing. Ha-ha, fights, fights, but no heroes really died here... Even the ones, who were kidnapped, just came back... That's stupid. And the conclusion... Well, I dunno, it's a good comic, it's interesting and all, but some decisions were just made by pussies... That's why it's not a green even when it was good.

Secret Invasion was pretty much a boring story. It could have been great, but it wasn't. Marvel had a huge flop here as their comics continue to decline, while DC's improve in recent years
