A fantastic lead-in to the upcoming graphic novel, and definitely a must read. Read Full Review

But a lot of it is retread, so I can't give it the highest recommendation - but I'm happy to see this character back in true form - smart, powerful and bristling with mystery. Now if they'll just allow Starlin to bring back Warlock, the fun can commence. Read Full Review

So while it was an interesting take on the past of Thanos with a brief glimpse of his future, this wasn't truly a full new story with how Thanos is today. This is more of how Thanos was when he was younger and a splinter of his conscious from when he had his only true grasp of real power. We did get a nice little tease of the future but if you were looking for a brand new Thanos story you'll have to wait for the graphic novel to be released. I know I am. While a fun read this is really a book that is probably for Thanos fans and not much past that. Read Full Review

    PopMatters - Gregory L. Reece Jun 3, 2014

Thanos Annual #1 is not a perfect book. It is limited by its purpose and its design as an introduction to something coming that promises to be bigger and better. It is, however, something to behold, a look inside the mind of an all too Godlike human character, a man burdened by his divinity, a madman challenged by moments of sanity. Thanos: Infinity Revelation is coming. I can't wait. Read Full Review

    Comic Vine - Tony 'G-Man' Guerrero May 28, 2014

What's going on with Thanos these days? Despite currently being in a sticky situation, we get to visit Thanos' past and get a glimpse at his future, courtesy of Jim Starlin and Ron Lim. These two have delivered so many great cosmic Marvel stories. Having them back here is such a treat. Some of the annual does feel as if it's mainly setting up the upcoming Thanos OGN. That's not necessarily a bad thing since Starlin and Lim do a great job digging into who Thanos is and was (and will be). If you dig Thanos, Starlin, or Lim, there is no question whether or not you should pick this up. Read Full Review

Multiversity Comics - James Johnston May 29, 2014

However, if you enjoy pure comic storytelling, the type where there's no limit in scope save for page count, then you might want to check out this annual. Honestly, “The Infinity Revelation” was something that was going to slip entirely under my radar but with this comic, I am now compelled to see what Starlin and Lim have cooking. Read Full Review

Comic Spectrum - Shawn Hoklas Jun 1, 2014

In terms of the art, it was a pleasure to see Ron Lim pencilling the cosmic characters again. At times his characters and backgrounds lack details and depth, but he understands these characters and for so many fans, his Thanos stands out. It was fun to see him redrawing certain scenes from the Infinity events, and throughout this issue there's an abundance of characters where it was exciting to see him draw them again. This isn't required reading by any means, and fans of the Thanos that has been portrayed in Infinity and the Thanos Rising mini-series may not find as much enjoyment in this book. But for those who have enjoyed Starlin and Lim's work on the character from the 1990"s, it was like revisiting old friends. Read Full Review

Fanboys Inc - Cody Mudge May 30, 2014

This comic seems like a missed opportunity to tell a story that really holds up with the great Starlin cosmic epics. Lim contributed some impressive work but cant bring enough life to a dull, devoid script. Lets hope that the upcoming graphic novel, The Infinity Revelation, does a better job of selling Thanos to this new generation of readers. (In time for the next big Marvel movie no doubt.) IGN - Jesse Schedeen May 29, 2014

This issue also offers a brief reunion between Starlin and artist Ron Lim. Their collaboration retains its appeal after all these years. Lim's cosmic characters and landscapes may not be as flashy as some artists, but he brings all the usual scope and imagination to his pages. Read Full Review

Comic Book Resources - Jim Johnson May 29, 2014

"Thanos Annual" #1 largely relies on past stories for its substance, but its strength lies in Starlin and Lim's ability to make referencing those classic stories work in a modern comic. It's not one of Starlin's masterpieces, but it's enjoyable on the merits of evoking those masterpieces and giving them context and relevance with stories yet to come. Read Full Review
