Cool guys don't look at explosions. We get a great action shot of Bucky running towards us from a massive explosion. It perfectly captures a very action movie style, even having Bucky give us a thumbs up from flicking the pin off his grenade. Great stuff, I'm really enjoying Lee Bermejo's cover work on this series so far. Read Full Review

The artwork still follows the paneled noir setup, but considering the content it continually works wonderfully. Also, every once in awhile a more avant garde page is thrown in for good measure"nothing too brash, but definitely not mundane. The only disappointment I had with the issue was thecover. Thus far Winter Soldier has had some amazing covers that have immediately set the tone for the issue, but issue number four's cover art is clich and reminds me of a late '80's VHS cover. At first glance I honestly thought Swarzenneggar was doing a cameo. Read Full Review

Butch Guice is his usual dark, scratchy self. There are moments when the action can be a bit confusing, especially since it at times features Doctor Doom versus a Doom Bot. A scene where somebody steals a gun from another person's holster requires some careful studying to figure out exactly what just occurred. That said, Guice absolutely kills it when delivering the mood and atmosphere. It feels like the Marvel Universe, but it feels like Brubaker's own corner of the Marvel Universe and that is largely thanks to the talents of guys like Guice who constantly give these issues a look and feel beyond the standard superhero book. I have to say, I found myself really enjoying this comic, but a lot of that had to do with Doom... I'm telling you, dialogue-wise, Doom is probably my favorite character in all of comics. It would be between Doom and Thor, but I think Doom would take the prize. Anyway, Besides the awesomeness that is Victor Von Doom, the story moved along nicely here. I liked that Von Bardas's plan wasn't simply to stage an assassination at the UN, but was to actually gain access to Latveria's nuclear arsenal and use it against America. Sure, her plan banked on a lot of events outside her influence occurring(such as Doom not being in Latveria), but overlooking that, I liked where Ed Brubaker took this story. The next issue is apparently the final part of this storyline, and it should go without saying I'm REALLY curious to see what happens and how Bucky and/or the Black Widow manage to prevent Von Bardas's nuclear attack. "Winter Soldier" is a fun book that continues to keep us guessing. This issue swaps scenes of dizzying violent displays against brilliant comedic banter from one of Marvel's best characters. Here you get a slice of action and a push forward on the narrative that pushes you to access the next issue as soon as you can. This is four-color action as only a Marvel book could present it. Butch Guice provides solid art, though I found his pencils to be somewhat inconsistent. Guice is normally rock solid and that fact is what makes some inconsistencies so blatantly apparent. On the positive side, his use of shadows as we trailed the Black Widow evoked an excellent aura of suspicion but I found myself puzzled as to why Doctor Doom always looked surprised. I can understand how it would be difficult to show emotion on the face of man in a mask, but surprise is not something that is typical for the not-so-good Doctor. Is this a minor quibble? Yes, of course it is! But when Guice is as good as he is sometimes it makes minor things like that shine like a beacon. Overall the art in the issue is great and matches the tone of the book well. Winter Soldier would definitely not be hurting if Guice put up the same quality of art for the next several issues. Read Full Review

As Bucky and Doom shoot up the UN the Black Widow works to track down the Red Ghost's and his machine gun totting, jetpack wearing, gorilla soldiers who (given the cover of next month's cover) we should be seeing more of very soon. Worth a look. Read Full Review
